In The Company Of Lord Krishna

In The Company Of Lord Krishna

Silken watercolours are a thing in Puri, Orissa. It is a city known for the sublime presence of Krishnaroopa within its precincts. The work of art that you see on this page is a folk art collectible and depicts the Lord Krishna surrounded by women who are devoted to Him. The ones He holds in His arms are His wives, Rukmini and Satyabhama, while the remaining ones are sakhiya (handmaidens) who are as devoted to Lord Krishna as any other with a woman’s heart. The symbolism of Krishnaleela lies in the oneness of the paramatma and the multitudinous jeevatma that seek to unite with the same.

Zoom in on each of the figures to appreciate the precision and attention to detail with which they have been painted. The soft ivory-coloured canvas has been treated with a palette of brilliant blues, reds, and greens. The maidens wield a variety of string and percussion instruments as they look lovingly in the direction of their Lord. In His dusky handsomeness, He watches over and reciprocates to them all. Delicately painted gulmohars dominate the background and a border of luxuriant peacock plumage completes the devotional composition.

I noticed that you seem to have had some difficulty in posting it so thank you...Posting anything these days is difficult because the ordinary postal services are either closed or functioning weakly.   I wish the best to Exotic India which is an excellent company...
