This gentle and beautiful lady, an epitome of the Classical Indian ideals of feminine beauty holds a lotus in her right hand. She is about to smell it. According to the ancient Sanskrit text, the Shilpa Shastra, such females are classified as padma-gandha (padma-lotus; gandha-smell).

The focal point of the painting is the face of this lady. The crowning glory on this face is the beautiful eye, resembling the petal of a lotus. The major color on her garment is also similar to the color of the lotus in her hands. Hence the appropriate name given to the lady: Lotus.

The tight bodice holds her bosom in a tight grip. The superb golden arcs, delineated over her choli (ancient Indian version of the blouse), accentuate the rotundity of her ample breasts and amplify the wholesome curves of this buxom lady.
