Part of a folio with text above and below the painting tells more than is available visually. Providing a relief to their fast moving court lives, were frequent visits to ascetics and fakirs as part of the noblemen and high ranking court officials quest for truth and their desire to be with the 'travellers on the road to holiness.'

In the tranquil milieu of this yogi ashram come visiting two noblemen accompanied by there wives. The yogi, seated on a high platform over a tiger skin is scantily clad, as part of his renunciation from day to day life. His adobe is a small thatched hut, beautified by a large creeper in the midst of quiet surroundings. The background consists of hills and a river following through in a restraint stream. Right behind the yogi are a couple of cypress trees and shrubs in the foreground. As the yogi is delivering sermons to the visitors, his disciple cooks food for him inside the humble hut. A peacock, attracted by the solitude, struts about.

The visitors sit with folded hands, facing the yogi. The profile of one of the men can be seen and the rest are shown with their backs towards the viewers. By this, the painter stresses that the yogi is the main protagonist of the painting and the rest are the means to justify it. The visitors, with reverent gestures reiterate the holiness and importance of the yogi, which seems the basic quest of the painter.
