This painting on a marble plate is remarkable for its simplicity of composition, its precision of execution and its juxtaposition of bright, warm colours. They seek to express a mood.

The artist has painted a young, beautiful, bejeweled damsel, with a subdued smile that lights up her face, betraying her youthful vigour. Fruit and wine lay in front of her but they fail to hold her attention; she is intoxicated by her own beauty. The mirror does not lie, she feels, as she looks at it with a proud countenance. She holds an oversized circular mirror in her delicate arms, her long fingers gently curving at the edges. The other hand is raised, adjusting the edge of her transparent odhini. The sharply curving waist is seen between her short choli and a long flowing skirt. As she is sitting cross-legged, the skirt flares all around her. But the lines depicting the folds are just symmetrically painted lines, belying the actual folds caused by the seated posture.

The painting is broad at the base and gradually tapers, lending depth to it. The background is worked in fine lattice work. The circular plate has a floral vine at the border, where golden colour is extensively used.
