This mite is portrayed with an astounding degree of accuracy and delicacy. Coloured in burnt sienna with black and grey eight legs, this insect picture combines science and art in unequal proportions, meeting the demands of arts at the expense of science. Fine hair is shown, emerging from the body. Various segments appear, the main body upwards. This lively, accurate vignette of a mite is impressive and appealing. The real insect endowed with body and life with numerous characteristics and above all, with actual existence had to undergo a great many metamorphosis before it became transported into the sphere of art and into this miniature. The colours are as close an artist can get to replicating nature. The hairy legs actually give one a creepy feeling. The pale yellow background helps in diverting the whole attention of the viewer, which, despite no natural milieu to support it, depicts motion. This is in itself speaks highly of the artist's observed realism and physical accuracy as well as for his artistic sensibility.
