Images from the Hindu pantheon are popular themes but representational and genre scenes do not lag behind. Music as a performing art and batik as a visual art have come together here to depict these three musicians. The bespectacled man on the left is the vocalist who wears a fancy angarakha and rests against a red bolster. He is engrossed in singing making suitable gestures with his hands. The beetle-chewing musician has a spittoon lying in the foreground. The musician in the middle is playing the veena and with such dedication that his eyes are closing due to his intense involvement. His open mouth suggests that he is singing as well. The third musician is playing a 'sarangi', an ethnic Indian musical instrument. He is also singing as he moves his hands deftly on the instrument. All three singers are wearing typically Muslim clothes and skull caps. The kurtas are bright in color but none clashing aesthetically with the other. The red and the yellow, the warm colors occupy the ends of the picture. The skullcaps of the men at each end are white which are in sharp contrast to the dull, muddy background.
The drawing and the dyeing are done in such a perfect manner that the movement and the ambience of a musical interlude are captured so well. The theme and the colors, both are vibrant and cheerful making this an excellent wall hanging.
