The best works of Kalamkari hail from Andhra Pradesh. The Kalamkari fabric is technically used as the temple cloth, depicting scenes from the life of gods.

The artist comes across as a devotee of Rama, well acquainted with the Ramayana of Valmiki, the Ramacharitamanas and the local legends of Rama. He has presented a broad assemblage of selected popular episodes from the Ramayana, in which the sequential order of the principal events of the entire story is shown. A number of intermediary incidents are omitted, not due to lack of knowledge but due constraint of space.

The narration starts prior to Rama's birth, covers important events, the passage of rites etc. A vast extent of the canvas to devoted to the events during his fourteen years of exile. The pictorial tale ends with the battle between Rama and Ravana. The circular space in the centre shows Rama and Sita with their near and dear ones. The happy re-union takes the centre stage, though not off setting the other depictions.
