In batik, as in any other art form, foreign themes are adapted and assimilated readily. The subject is apparently Persian the sitting - a quiet grove and a pleasurable environment. A beautiful girl of tall and petite frame sits with a stringed instrument in her lap. A long red dress covers her from shoulders to her ankles; to cut across the uniformity of red, the artist has created black and white pattern on the dress. A small cap of similar colours adorns her head. The man across her sits with his back resting against the tree trunk. The artist has played with various colours for his garments. After having the cerebral pleasure of reading poetry, he indulges in wine. He holds one cup in his hand and pours some wine in another lying on the lush green grass. He looks at his beautiful companion, trying to gauge what provides more pleasure.
What little was left of the projection of beauty, is provided by the sublime ambience - the sun setting in the clear blue skies, the laden trees of early spring and of course, love in the air!
