This miniature depicts a lady of aristocratic lineage, wearing a gorgeous dress - a short bodice, long patterned skirt and a diaphanous odhini, resting against a huge bolster. Decked with elegant jewelry, she sits with one leg folded in and the other on the ground in a leisured manner. She holds a falcon in a gloved hand, snatches away the little bird from it-visible in the other hand. Her beautiful oval eyes send a reproachful look aimed at the falcon for hunting down a vulnerable little bird.
Lines of shading in the clothing do not follow the effect of light, but repeat and reinforce the linear definition of the fabric outlines and folds. The artist has made free use of architecture of the pavilion which is effective in relation to the total design of the painting. In fact, he has vertically divided the background into two - a built up structure and foliage with a dusky sky behind. The composition is balanced with a lawn and a water fountain in the foreground. It is powerful even with a simple unaccompanied figure. What is outstanding, though, is the treatment of space - there is spatial depth. By creating a visual equivalent for empty space in which solid forms are carefully located e.g. the wine casket lying on a small table, the boundaries and hence the inherent separateness of these forms is affirmed. Reviewed in totality, this painting has softness, fluidity and charm in execution.
