Narrative art depicts the events of the period - battles, hunting, court scenes and harem scenes. Aesthetically painted, the harem scenes sought to represent a king and his sensual indulgences, reflecting his lustful infatuations, merriment or pleasurable diversions.

Dance and music has always been appreciated by the kings and princes and has always received royal patronage. However, it was also a source of enjoyment for them. Here the prince and his lady love sit on a rug, resting against bolsters and cushions. They are enjoying an evening listening to instrumental music. Neither of the two women playing the instruments are in the process of singing. The prince is dressed in royal attire with an adorned turban and jewellery and a dagger tucked in his waist belt. He holds the wine casket to refill the lady's cup of wine. She sits with confidence and grace with one arm around the prince's shoulder and the other perched on her raised knee, She is beautiful and she looks proud of the fact. The woman with a hand fan sits behind them causing a gentle breeze and comfortable environment for the duo to enjoy music. The two women musicians sit with their instruments on their lap, playing their very best. The humble expression on their faces is in sharp contrast to the confident, nay, even arrogant look on the lady love's face.
