The brilliant colors of the Scarlet Macaw, and its daily flights between roosting and feeding areas make it a highly conspicuous species. It occurs widely in broken woodland, in the trees of the forest edge, and in open country with scattered groups of tall trees. Pairs keep together and flocks are composed of pairs or small parties. The diet consists of a variety of fruits, nuts, and seeds. In areas of human settlement the Scarlet Macaw has become scarce because of trapping. The birds are usually silent when feeding, but utter harsh calls in flight and screech when alarmed.

Nest: A cavity in the trunk of a forest tree.

Distribution: Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia.
