Iconographically, Shani is one of black body, four arms and riding a crow or a vulture, which is considered to be an unlucky bird. Here, however, Shani is black of body, ugly, but riding a buffalo. In two hands, he holds a trident and a mace; in the lower right hand, he holds a lamp. A yantra, to meditate upon Shani is painted in the lower left corner. Not only is the body of Shani black, the border is also black with colored patterns.
