With the depiction of folk lore of Dhola and Maru wherein Dhola elopes with the latter on the camel, the animal became part of many a painting. Not only did the romantic couple become etched in the memory of the common folk, they were always related with the camel as their means of escape. Most fairs and festivals are incomplete without the camel's participation. Acting as a beast of burden, mode of transportation, participating in battles, there is no field that this animal has not tread on.
The camel has a particular shade of ochre which has come to be referred as camel colour. Here on the background of green, which is quite an oxymoron in the greenless land it belongs to, this camel in camel colour has a colourful under-cloth and a floral over cloth. In its neck it wears strings of colourful beads. It proudly holds its head aloft and walks on, on its shabby long legs, happily coiling its short tail.
This proud camel does not have a match, either in the desert or in painting.
