Shiva-Parvati Walking

Lord Shiva and His Devi Parvati are walking through the darker recesses of the Himalayas. With a hand on Her waist, He draws Her closer to Him as they progress. It is a typically cold night of the North, the skies all black and red in the background. The monotone figures in the foreground have a dynamic stance and a look of solemnity about them. He bears the trishool in the other hand, the damroo dangling from His waist, while She carries their kamandalu.

The deep ochre that defines the composition features the colourless splotches characteristic to batik paintings. Having been finished after multiple rounds of tyeing, dyeing, and waxing the fabric canvas, the painting bears all the hallmarks of this traditional folk art form. A rudimentary silhouette, thick dark infusions of colour, and devotional iconography that is intact. The attention to detail paid to the composition makes this a quality work of art.
