This tiny miniature depicting a modest mode of transport may not be in the league of other romance, action and drama packed Mughal and Pahari miniatures, but in detailing it seems non-pareil.

This little vignette like work is rendered with extraordinary delicacy both of colour and line. A pair of oxen in pristine white with perfectly shaped hooves and well-aligned horns, are dressed in rich overcloth, concealing most parts of their bodies. They are meant to pull an exquisite structure on wheels. This kind of transport is meant for the womenfolk of royal households, who were supposed to be in 'purdah'. The small square structure is topped by a dome and an awning in front. It has a small opening for the traveller to peep out.

The artist has worked on it with dexterity, and considering the tiny size of the painting, it must have been a Herculean task to render perfection in each detail. To top it, he uses jewel-like colours, illuminating the painting instantly. He uses green lightly to give the ground effect and forgoes the sky, not wanting to disturb the miniature composition in any way.
