Lord Buddha was born into a royal family, the Shakya clan, from the contemporary Indo-Nepal border. He renounced his noble ancestry as a young man and adopted the life of an ascetic vagabond. The flaws of materialistic attachment, were recognized by Buddha. The brass statue of Gautam Buddha preaching his dhamma sits in padmasana on a jet black lotus plinth decorated in an amazingly blended pattern with the lotus leaves highlighted with amber-gold colour. He holds a bowl of alms in his left hand and the right hand rests on his right knee in Varada mudra. Buddha’s every hand gesture symbolizes a unique and spiritual meaning.
Aside from the spiritual qualities of this sculpture, pay attention to the aesthetic characteristics that the sculptor has underlined with the use of clean polished brass work. He is dressed in an amber gold robe that contrasts beautifully with the enlightened one's bodice.
