The Destroyer and Transformer

This meticulously crafted brass statue portrays Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, known as the Destroyer within the Trimurti (the Hindu Trinity which also includes Brahma the Creator and Vishnu the Preserver). Yet, Shiva's role as destroyer is not one of pure annihilation, but rather of transformation. He destroys the old to make way for the new, clearing the path for creation and renewal. This intricate piece captures the essence of his complex and powerful nature.

Iconography and Symbolism

Seated in a meditative pose, Shiva embodies serenity and detachment even as his inherent power resonates. His four arms each hold symbolic implements. In one hand, he holds the damaru, a small drum whose rhythmic beats represent the pulse of creation and the cyclical nature of time. In another, he carries the trishul, his trident, a symbol of his dominion over the three worlds: earth, atmosphere, and heaven, and also represents the three gunas (qualities) of nature: sattva (goodness, purity), rajas (passion, activity), and tamas (ignorance, inertia). A cobra is draped around his neck, representing his mastery over death and fear. His matted hair is piled high, adorned with the crescent moon, a symbol of time and the cyclical nature of the universe. The third eye on his forehead represents wisdom and the power to incinerate all that is evil.

The Amethyst Base: A Foundation of Spirituality

This representation of Shiva is elevated upon a base of amethyst gemstone. Amethyst is a stone revered for its spiritual properties, believed to enhance intuition, promote calmness, and aid in meditation. Its rich purple hues resonate with the crown chakra, the center of spiritual connection. The combination of the powerful presence of Shiva with the grounding and spiritually uplifting properties of amethyst creates a piece that is not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful. The intricately carved tiger skin on the base further enhances the statue, symbolizing control over power, desire and the mind. This superfine statue brings a tangible connection to the divine.
