Jaipur is famous for its unique collection of handicrafts. This wooden statue is of a mother elephant nurturing and caring the baby elephant in her large stomach, showing the motherly love for her child who is about to be born. She holds a ball with her black colored richly sculpted trunk and is playing with it expressing her overwhelm and joyousness.
The body of the mother elephant is created like a spectacular circular mesh, golden in color with tinges of red; head is lavishly decorated with leaf like patterns near eyes. The unique big ears formed like the wings of a butterfly aptly contrast with the body. Sleek tail falls smoothly and touches the left leg. The golden colored necklace painted on elephant’s neck gives it a distinctive look.
Mother and child love is the most selfless, protected and precious one, which can be clearly demonstrated by this statue of baby elephant being fostered by its mother.
