4" Small Bhagawan Ganesha Seated on Lotus in Brass | Handmade | Made In India

$99

This is probably one of the most unique idols of Lord Ganesha available in present times. The difference of this Ganesha statue with others can be attributed to the method in which it is made, that is, Dhokra Brass Casting. Dhokra is a metal casted art that uses the ancient lost-wax casting technique, the same technique that was used in making the popular dancing girl figurine from Mohenjo-Daro. At present, it is mainly practised in tribal pockets including Chattisgarh and West Bengal. They usually make use of flat motifs or thin-walled hollow containers or figurines in the making process which explains the distinctive shape and size of the figures.

Here, Lord Ganesha is depicted as sitting on a lotus with a five-headed snake above his head. He has four arms holding an axe, a single tusk, a chakra (discus) and a plate of ‘modaka’ (sweets). This is also a unique feature of the statue as this combination of weapons or symbols on the lord’s arms are rare. Unlike the big-bellied Ganesha, here you can see a lean form with a long proboscis. The sculpture also has a sharp, pointed finishing with a symmetrical body and minimal decorations. The sculptures made using this method are considered to be auspicious and are believed to bring prosperity and happiness when installed in the household. Having this unique idol will be an asset to your collection.
