Dwimukha Ganesh (literally, two-headed Ganesh) is one of the 32 forms of the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. As clear by the name, Dwimukha Ganesh has two heads, not as a physical attribute but as a symbolic one. The two heads signify his ability to keep a track of the worldly as well as spiritual spheres simultaneously.

In this rare brass idol, Ganesh is sitting on a throne with inverted lotus patterns on its base. In his hands, he holds a paash (noose), Ankush (goad), his broken tusk, and Ratna Kalash (a pot of jewels). His head is adorned with a magnificent mukut (crown) decorated with jewels. Of the two trunks, one is folding on the left side (signifying calm and peaceful energy of Sri Ganesh, fit for household spaces), while the other one is folded in the right direction (an attribute related to Siddhi Vianayak form of Ganesh, which is mostly kept in temples). The opposite directions of the trunk highlight that both domestic and religious affairs lie within Ganesh’s sphere of control. This is a relatively rare form of Ganesh, one which has only a few visual depictions, making this brass Dwimukha Ganesh murti a truly unique piece.
