Nautical-Blue Handloom Carpet from Mirzapur with Hand-Knotted Mughal Design

Nautical-Blue Handloom Carpet from Mirzapur with Hand-Knotted Mughal Design

Nautical-Blue Handloom Carpet from Mirzapur with Hand-Knotted Mughal Design

This Indo-Kerman rug has been handpicked from Mirzapur, the go-to destination for India’s handloom heritage. The city of traditional weavers, it is an unassuming yet charming town whose looms habitually churn out the likes of this traditional rug. It has been fashioned from pure homegrown cotton and finished with a skill that you may love to exhibit in your space, should a medieval ethos be your type.

Indeed, this number would make a great show of your taste to visitors. From the central floral medallion to the surrounding rounds of flowers and vines, the embroidery is done with wool against the base cotton. Traditional as they are, motifs constitute the soul of this work of art. They are densely packed onto the surface area, demarcated with considerable precision by the solemn colour palette chosen by the artisan.

Zoom in on each aspect of this rug to appreciate the beauty it has been conceived with as well as the skill of the executioner. A statement-making hint of inky blue graces all four edges of the rug. White twisted tassels complete the composition. The work, which is of quintessential North Indian make, is a distinguished example of the influence the Mughal courts had on the art of the Indian weaver.

Thank you so much for shipping Ma Shitala.  She arrived safely today on Buddha Purnima.  We greeted Her with camphor and conch blowing, and she now is on Ma Kali’s altar.  She is very beautiful.  Thank you for packing Her so well. Jai Ma

Great site! Myriad of items across the cultural spectrum. Great search capability, too. If it's Indian, you'll probably find it here.

I was very happy to find these great Hindu texts of the ancient times. Been a fan of both Mahabhratham and Ramayanam since I was a small boy. Now the whole family can enjoy these very important cultural texts at home.
