Book Description

About The Book

Raman Maharshi Perhaps the most logical thinker ever produced in the orient, Raman Maharshi, was the philosophers' philosopher. His concepts of destiny and free will have drawn devotees from all parts of the world. Though a votary of non-dualism (advaita) he also advocated devotion as a definitive way to God-realisation. The book contains not only his life history but also the essence of the gem of thoughts that he disseminated apart from their independent scrutiny with a rational approach.

Introduction

This is the third flower of the boquette that we are bringing before our discerning readership. Raman Maharshi was one of those thinking saints of India whose thoughts had a distinct logic to expound a definite theory the Indian school of metaphysics. The attempt has been to present his thoughts in a most lucid and clear way. That is why scores of parallel examples in verse and prose have been liberally given to drive home the point. Where ever he is found to be at variance with the traditional thought that has also been narrated with explanations and comments. His ideas have been compared not only with the earlier and latest metaphysical theories but their practical significance has also been analysed at length. The author is greatful to not only the earlier writers whose work have been a great help in writing this book but also to the literature published by Sri Ramaashram, Tiruvannamalai and to my learned friend cousin, Mr. S. K. Chaturvedi, with whom discussions have always been most enlightening. It is hoped that this book will recieve a warm welcome.
