Preface
This report is the outcome of my fieldwork in rural areas of Chikmagalur taluk of Chikmagalur district, Karnataka. The fieldwork was conducted under the project "Socio-cultural aspects of Adi Karnataka Community of Karnataka" in the months of September, October and November 2006. The main objectives of the study are to delineate (i) the socio-cultural profile of Adi Karnataka community (ii) to study the distribution of Handigodu syndrome and make an effort to find out how this disease is influenced by cultural factors and (iii) to study the impact of development programmes of the government for upliftment of the persons affected with Handigodu syndrome among the Adi Karnataka community.
