Preface

A VILLAGE THAT WAS ONCE MINE", is the story of a person who as a teen had strong desire to see his ancestral village but he could not. He was disappointed when his piece of land was sold and he had to remain as a city dweller. Later on, in his life, he makes effort to get reconnected to the village. During such effort, he looks the village from an outsider's view. This makes his journey to the village a journey of culture, custom, and religious practices. The village lifestyle also gets compared to that of the urban. The story set in a typical Bihar village is an effort to include as many shades of the village life as possible, in the particular milieu set in the story. .

While 69% of the Indian population live in the villages, the remaining 31 % also have some kind of connection with these, unless the town or cities they live in, were so developed with time from the pre- existing villages. So, for those 31% too, there must be a village where their ancestors might have lived for thousands of years. Some among them even sell their village properties, thinking that they would never be required to return. But sometimes a situation might come when they find themselves helpless. In that case, they remember their villages to fall back upon because one's ancestral village is like a mother who never abandons her child.
