Introduction This book is the result of a seminar on Marriage Systems in India held in Nagpur on February 1983 organised by the Anthropological Survey of India. The participants are the members of the Anthropological Survey of India, who have worked among the different ethnic groups of India, excepting one (Deogaonkar). The papers cover cultural anthropology, physical anthropology and psychology. A few papers which could not be presented in the seminar but were received before the commencement of the seminar have been included, viz., the papers by Asha Dutta, R. K. Bhattacharya, S. H. M. Rizvi, N. K. Das and Deogaonkar.
