Book Description

Preface Uttar Pradesh one the largest states India and has less than 7% forest cover. However, birdlife very in the state mainly due the presence a large number of wetlands the Gangetic plains. Out of the 1,303 bird species reported from India, nearly 500 species found the state. Every year, BirdLife International, UK, brings out an updated list of globally threatened species birds for IUCN. The 2013 list, on which this book largely based, has 165 species globally threatened and near threatened categories India. Of these, about 50 are found Uttar Pradesh. Three species, Great Indian Bustard, Pink-headed Duck, and Siberian Crane now extinct the State. The Pink-headed Duck extinct worldwide, and the Great Indian Bustard still surviving other states highly depleted numbers. The Siberian Crane, migratory species, was last seen UP in 1937, and in Keoladeo National Park, Rajasthan in winter 2001-2012.
