Mangrove forests are one of the critical ecosystems in the coastal regions across the globe. The mangroves are essentially contributing to the ecological and socio-economic aspects of local communities. The mangroves are performing as a keystone ecosystem in the coastal region. It provides a home and ideal breeding ground or nursery ground for several faunal communities. It provides food for the multitudes, contributes to clean water management, protects the coastline against erosion, provides protection against wind and wave damage, and provides enormous resources to human beings for their daily survival and livelihood.

Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is well known to represent the combination of riverine, estuarine, and mangrove ecosystems along with coastal and marine habitats which signify this region as an ecotone habitat. This complex ecosystem fundamentally provides notable biological and ecological services which are required to conserve sustainability. The human welfare of coastal populations along with their socio-economic development through fishing, aquaculture, and tourism are completely dependent on this ecosystem which is required to be protected and conserved against their loss.

Detailed documentation on mangroves and mangrove-associated faunal communities of Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is prepared for the first time comprehensively. The present book entitled 'Faunal Diversity of Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, Andhra Pradesh' contains 36 chapters covering the faunal groups from Protozoa to Mammalia comprising 1792 species based on the comprehensive studies, the data collected by Zoological Survey of India, and available published literature on Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary.

I am confident that this publication will be a benchmark database for the conservation and management mangrove ecosystem of Coringa. The information provided in the book will be useful to researchers, academicians, environmentalists, and wildlife managers to understand the fuanistic component of this fragile ecosystem.
