This word yantra, in its most general sense, means an instrument, or that by which anything is accomplished. In worship it is that by which the mind is fixed on its object. The Yogini-Tantra says that the Devi should be worshipped either in pratima (image), mandala, or yantra. At a certain stage of spiritual progress the sadhaka is qualified to worship yantra.
The siddha-yogi in inward worship (antar- puja) commences with the worship of yantra, which is the sign (samketa) of brahma-vijnana, as the mantra is the samketa of the Devata. It is also said that yantra is so called because it subdues (niyantrana) lust, anger, and the other sins of jiva and the sufferings caused thereby.
Yantra benefits include the attraction of good luck, fortune, prosperity, success, protection, and good health to the user. The vibrations and generation of cosmic energies help to spread positive energy and internal peace. The energies synchronize with our bodies and help us to cure our physical health issues.
Yantras can help focus the mind and still the thoughts, channel the energy of the universe into the body, serve as tools for meditation, mantra recitation, and prayer, connect with the divine power of the universe, and form spiritual practices. Are used for the worship of deities in temples or at home.
In general, broken or damaged yantras should not be kept. The reason is they cannot generate the proper energy because of the damage and change in their form due to the damage. The ideal way of disposing of a broken yantra is to throw it or put it in flowing water such as a river, or a large water body such as a lake or ocean. Do not cut it. Dispose of it by burying it under a tree. The soil should be kept wet for a few days. It may also be disposed of by tying it to a flowering tree.
Yantras made of Copper, Bhojpatra, Silver, Gold, Panchdhatu, and Ashtadhatu are considered more auspicious. Brass is a little less auspicious than the above-mentioned metals. And Aluminium, Steel, foils, and plastic are useless, though these are very cheap. A few Gurus make customized yantras for their disciples or followers on cloth, which also works very well.
Yantras help remove the malefic effects of planets and strengthen the positive effects or forces. Through Yantra, invisible sources of energy can be made to work for the user. The most effective among copper, parad, and crystal is the crystal itself. Yantra brings happiness, health, wealth, and prosperity to devotees.
The Vastu yantra is a harmless tool with no bad effects and can be kept in homes, offices, factories, or any other place of your liking. It is believed that a Sri Chakra should be kept in the home mandir. It should face East, North, or Northeast directions only.
But it certainly is not possible for everyone to construct their homes following all the Vastu principles. Especially for people living in flats and apartments, it is impossible to construct a home according to Vastu. You have to rely on Vastu remedies to rectify the Vastu dosh in the home.
