Book Description

Preface

During his life, Swami Rama's mission was to teach people all over the world the basic principles of the science of yoga and meditation. He guided countless students on the spiritual path and taught them how to reach the final goal of life, the realization of the Self, or enlightenment. In his books and lectures, Swamiji revealed many things about his training and his relationship with his master, Bengali Baba. He gave very little information, however, about his friends and relatives. To make this book into a complete story, these elements have been added. If there is any similarity between the actual relatives or friends of Swamiji and the characters in the book, it is merely coincidental. This book is not meant to be a historical overview of the childhood of Swami Rama. Well-known anecdotes about his childhood in the Garhwal Mountains of Northern India and his education and training by a great yogi in the Himalayas have been incorporated into a story to awaken the interest of young readers for the perennial wisdom of the Himalayan sages. Although there are many interesting and informative books on meditation for adults, these books may be unattractive and hard to understand for children. Parents and grandparents who are meditators often find it difficult to explain to children what they are actually doing and why. It is hoped that this book will be helpful to provide information about the science of yoga and meditation to the younger generation.

About the Book

Bhole Adventures of a Young Yogi Hema de Munnik This is the story about a boy named Bhole who was born in a remote village in the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India. Bhole was adopted by a great saint and raised in a cave monastery from the age of three. He loved to play pranks on meditating monks and his unruly behavior often disturbed the peaceful and quiet atmosphere in the cave. After a few years he was sent to school in his village, where he shared adventures with his dog Bhaiya, and with his friend Arjun. During his holidays he met with many yogis, saints and sages who amazed him with their supernatural powers. He wanted to become a yogi, but before this could happen he needed to remove many obstacles and had to overcome many difficulties.
