About the Book The Blind Alley is collection of stories Akhil Mohan Patnaik. Originally written Odia, the stories this collection are fine example of Patnaik's ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, weaving memorable stories out commonplace events of The simple vendor of snacks for whom winning bumper lottery spells the doom, truck driver, defenseless before sadistic mob, the young salesman whose indulgence fanciful speculations cost him hard-earned job-all emerge as unforgettable characters. The despair and disillusionment of promising students enticed into the Naxalite movement in the best part their academic career are vividly brought out the title story. The pathos and suffering, the hopes and frustrations, the humour and tragedy of day-to-day life depicted the powerful and original language of author is lucidly reproduced in translation.

About the Author Akhil Mohan Patnaik (1927-82) started his career as advocate Bhubaneswar. His first story "Span" was published in 1948. His short story collections include Jhadar Eagle or Dharanirkrushnasar and Andha Gali. Apart from his stories he wrote biographies, criticism and belles-lettres. He was translator, amateur artist and was interested in theatre and played vital role in the revival of the Janata Theatre Movement.
