These poems are a labour of love; of yearning; of unsuccessful attempts: of seeming success on the path; of hope and prayer, of supplication and faith. Expressions that arose while trying to unravel oneself, are intermingled with heartfelt prayers and many ideas have been interwoven to form a mosaic. They are blossoms from the heart, offered at the Feet of the Lord.
To celebrate the 80% year of The Advent of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba numberless activities have been initiated and many completed. In 2004, 1 chalked out my own list of eighty offerings. I began them earnestly but the Lord diverted me to other areas of activity and service that consumed my attention and energies so that I had to shelve many of my plans. Nevertheless, I did manage some of the more important ones-namely, writing poetry to Swami.
Initially I had no idea how to achieve this, as poems have to sprout from the heart and I was not sure if or when the heart would pour forth in melody. I had written 4 to 5 of them a few years earlier. Sketching from Swami's photographs was one of the activities I had begun. This in turn brought forth some lines. A trip to Puttaparthi was in the offing. Yearnings and supplications poured out and poetry followed in a cascade as a sequelae.
I was mantled into Swami's fold in 1965 when I was barely 18 and so had the good fortune-of receiving His benediction and Grace, of being spoken to and of receiving Vibhuti from His hands. Yet, I was never satisfied. I had imagined that as the years moved on, I might become worthy enough (in terms of spiritual worth) to be near Him longer. Having not done adequate homework or surrendered at all, this did not happen. Perhaps I had to stop expecting external indicators. Perhaps I had to search Him within. Perhaps so many things. Some of the poems relate to the yearnings I have, that still continue, though their edges have blunted.
Nevertheless, the years have thrown their light and-despite all my failings, littleness of mind and immaturity there is no doubt that the Lord alone looks after me every single day, every moment, at every place, protects me. saves me and guides me through and through.
I did not have the lasting patience of younger years to write these poems to perfection. They are presented as they streamed out from within rhythm, metre, rhyme, prose - poetry all inclusive. The intent was more on conveying ideas and feelings than in writing perfect poetry. The Lord has accepted me with all my glowing and growing imperfections. I hope you dear reader will accept my poems in a similar light.
There is nothing spectacular or awesome being offered through these lines. "Blossoming love' just happened. It was completed by April 13, 2005 and on 'Vishu-the Malayalam New Year which falls on 14th of April, I placed it before Swami at the residence of the 'Sunderams at Garodia Nagar Mumbai. One fine evening Mrs. Meena Sunderam informed me that Swami had indeed blessed my dairy of effort! 1 was charged with joy and utter humilty and hurried over the following Thursday to their home. To my amazement I saw Vibhuti rained in abundantly; scattered page after page, poem after poem, some places a pinch, at others in profusion. Together was Swami's signature along with His Blessing!
I was overwhelmed! For days rather weeks, I remained in that state. So Swami was indeed happy so it seemed. "Thank you Swami, for blessing my offering". Persuaded by many to share these poems I embarked on its publication. At every stage it was easy to see that His Hand was pulsing thro' the job. That is how dear reader - 'Blossoming love' is in your hands. He is looking from the pages at you. Do you see Him?
