It is with immense pride and pleasure that I write this foreword for Bundeli, a remarkable work authored by Aniket Jain. This book, dedicated to the rich history, culture and legacy of the Bundelkhand region, offers an in-depth exploration of its vibrant heritage and indomitable spirit.
Bundelkhand, with its majestic landscapes and proud history, has long been a cradle of valour, art and culture. From the valorous tales of its warriors, the architectural marvels of its forts and temples, to the folk traditions and festivals that have stood the test of time, Bundelkhand has always held a unique place in the heart of India. Aniket Jain's book beautifully captures this essence, presenting readers with a vivid portrayal of a region steeped in tradition, yet alive with the promise of the future.
This work is not only an ode to Bundelkhand's glorious past but also a reminder of the cultural values that continue to shape its present and future. Through stories of resilience, honour and devotion, this book serves as a bridge between generations, connecting the readers to the soul of the land and the wisdom of its ancestors.
I am confident that this book will serve as an inspiration for readers to delve deeper into the cultural treasures of Bundelkhand and gain a greater appreciation for its invaluable contributions to the nation's identity. Aniket Jain has made a commendable effort in bringing the rich tapestry of Bundeli culture to the forefront, ensuring that it continues to resonate in the hearts and minds of readers, young and old alike.
I congratulate Aniket Jain for this exceptional contribution to our cultural heritage and wholeheartedly recommend 'Bundeli' to all those who seek to understand and celebrate the spirit of Bundelkhand.
Thee The word Bundeli typically represents the language of the great gallant land of Bundelkhand (Province in central India) but it's also used to describe the people, culture, and traditions of the land. Since similar nomenclature/terminology is followed for all the other existing languages and cultures in India, so for Indians it's very easy to understand and relate. In India, people are usually identified by the language they speak, for example - if a person speaks the Marathi language (belonging to Maharashtra), then we consider him/her as Marathi and the same applies in the case of Bengali, Punjabi and others. Similarly, one who speaks the Bundeli language is referred to as Bundeli.
Identification of individuals based on language reduces differences among citizens, differences based on caste and religion, and also it unites individuals based on Language and culture. New listeners always find Bundeli as a very interesting language and also a language full of laughter. Bundeli sounds very different from all other variants derived from Hindi. I believe it's the only language that gives us feeling/idea of us and togetherness. I've been to many states and provinces, but never felt such affinity toward others.
I strongly believe that our native language is always very close to our heart, it also gives us a strong essence of pride to wear while speaking and also, it's the best medium to express our thoughts and emotions. For me listening to my native language is very heart-warming and a treat to my ears, it always empowers me with confidence.
Language and culture are something that cannot be restricted to any particular geographical area, So the Cultural and geographical boundaries of Bundelkhand are not defined by any particular location or coordinates, they are identified based on language and culture. If we try to estimate the Geographical boundaries of Bundelkhand, then the province of Bundelkhand lies mutually in two states - Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The province of Bundelkhand covers a Major portion in Madhya Pradesh and a Minor in Uttar Pradesh (the size of Uttar Pradesh is very large as compared to that of Madhya Pradesh).
The essence of the culture and tradition of Bundelkhand is also found in the neighbouring provinces. Vindhyanchal, Mahakaushal, Gird, Chambal, Malwa and Purvanchal, also follow similar cultures to an extent, but with some regional variations. In these provinces, the areas that share the province border with Bundelkhand have a very unique taste in culture and tradition, due to the combination of two different cultures and traditions. People in Bundelkhand share good relations with the people of neighbouring provinces because of relations formed by inter province marriages and also due to similarity in culture. Covering the major portions of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Bundelkhand with its glorious past and splendid culture is one of the finest among all in the whole world. When the historic cultures and traditions of various ancient civilisations and provinces in the whole world were degrading or have degraded, due to various factors like Globalisation and Modernisation, Bundelkhand was successful in protecting and reviving its culture and tradition. The Bundeli culture is still the same in its original form, which has today given Bundeli people immense pride to wear and also awarded them with the privilege of standing strong among all in the whole world.
There's a very old saying in India "A significant gap should be maintained between cultural heritage and Finances." If an individual or a country restricts to respect and follow its own culture and starts focussing only on making itself economically stronger, then someday the name of the individual or country is going to vanish from history, also later causing danger to its existence. This scenario is not only followed in India, but its followed across globe by all the ancient civilizations.
Bundeli is a spoken form of Hindi, which is developed due to regional variations and comes with primitive words developed and used regionally. Bundeli in writing is Hindi only.
