Book Description
Introduction

Bhagavaan Shri Sathya Sai Baba has been conducting for many years since 1961, a Seven Day Vedha Purusha Jnaana Yagna, a Vedhik Fire-Sacrifice at Prashaanthi Nilayam. Such a Yagna has been performed from 25th September to 1st October 1998 in Puurna Chandhra Auditorium.

Yagna is the means for securing awareness of the Divine and peace and happiness in society. It may be asked why the Yagna is performed for seven days. The number seven has a special significance in the divine creation. For instance, there are said to be seven worlds, seven sages, seven seas, seven sacred mountains, seven colours of the Sun's ray and seven notes of music and so on. If these are worshipped as symbols of the Divine, awareness of the Divine arises. By the performance of the Yagna for seven days according to the Vedhik injunctions, man can acquire the ability to get rid of the seven veils of ignorance, ascend the seven stages of spiritual knowledge and achieve liberation.

This Yagna begins with the lighting of the sacred sacrificial fire by the rigid rubbing of two sacred wooden sticks, symbolic of the latent presence of the Divine in every object of creation.

In this Yagna seven principal deities or divine potencies are worshipped: Ganesha (Remover of obstacles), Suurya (the energising Sun God), Dhevi (the Divine Mother), Brahma (the Propagator of the Vedhas), Vishnu (all persasive Divinity), Shiva (the Great God of Auspiciousness) and Agni (the Fire God). Bhagavaan declares that all these divine potencies are in man.

The central aspect of this Yagna is the offerings to Shiva in the sacrificial fireplace on all the seven days of the Yagna with the chanting of the sacred hymn, 'Rudhram On the final day of this Yagna, Bhagavaan materialises various precious objects and offers them to the sacrificial fire. Bhagavaan has declared that what everyone should offer in the sacrificial fire are his bad qualities. Bhagavaan has also explained that the sacred smoke rising from the sacrificial fire, fully charged with the power of the sacred Vedhik manthras enters the clouds and purifies the rain-water and it also purifies the pollution in the atmosphere.

This Yagna is marked by the clear chanting of the Vedhas. The Vedhas are eternal and are the basis for all Dharma Bhaarath is esteemed as the soul of the Vedhas, whose glory is repeatedly declared by Bhagavaan in His many discourses.

Bhagavaan's discourses during the seven days of the Yagna are veritable feasts for the thousands of devotees from here and abroad. Bhagavaan explains in the simplest language profoundest Vedhaanthik Truths; in these discourses. Bhagavaan conveys forcefully the message of the Adhvaithik wisdom of the oneness of the individual self and the Supreme Self. This indeed is the real purpose of this Jnaana Yagna.
