Mahalakshmi the consort of Lord Vishnu and the sister of goddesses Mahasaraswati and mahakali is worshipped as the goddess of wealth in India. She is depicted as seated on a pink lotus with approximately 1000 arms each holding weapons and other Miscellaneous objects. Coins of gold are shown as raining not only in India but all across the globe as a deity of beauty power wealth and abundance. Incidentally the people of Mumbai attribute the presence of the famous Mahalakshmi temple as the reason for the richness of the metropolis.

According to epics Mahalakshmi took birth from the left side of Lord Vishnu during the beginning of the creation and later she was born again from the sea of milk when the Devas Churned if for attaining nectar. She resides on the chest of Maha Vishnu as Sri Vatsa and also appeared on this earth in the form of Seetha and Rukmani known to destroy evil powers Goddess Mahalaskhmi is credited for killing the demon king Mahishasura who disguished himself in the form of many animals but finally succumbed to the remarkable strength of Goddess Mahalaskhmi.

About the Artiste

Born in Chennai in 1966 into a family of musicians, Uma Mohan trained under her mother and Guru Smt. P.L. Saraswathy Ram in classical Carnatic music since childhood. Even as a child she was interested in philosophy and read books of Bhagavad Gita were her all time favorites. This spiritual inclination led her on a Vedic Voyage and she began writing songs in Tamil, which she released as Bhajan Cassettes. A series of Devotional cassettes and CDs with song from all languages including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and foreign language like Singhalese and English followed. Times music has also released many solo albums by her such as Divine Chants of Ganesh Sounds of Harmony Shanthi Mantras and more. Also an Artist Dramatist, dancer, and storywriter, Uma Mohan aspires to takes the positive vibrations of the Veda mantras to every home and into every child’s life. She endeavors to mix symphony music with the regular rendering of Vedas to make spiritual enhancement more accessible and enjoyables.
