Book Description
About the CD

In this brand new, high-energy percussion album, Bickram Ghosh is like the magician brewing new concoctions of rhythm, beats and melody. A heady mix of hip-hop, folk, Indian and Western classical influences, this album is truly an invasion into an unexplored territory of percussion!

Drum invasion is my first album devoted almost entirely to rhythm. In my earlier albums, I have approached melody and rhythm on equal terms, but here, rhythm is by far the dominant force. However as far as I am concerned, melody cannot be too far behind in any of my creations. Hence, we find her playing fairly important roles, especially in 'Krishna' and 'Megha' where the format is song. The breaking of convention (which has been a constant obsession with me) comes in the interludes, which are rhythmic showcases.

With Drum invasion, I have approached a number of genres of music that I often tend to visit, but never have done so under one umbrella.

'Acupella' and 'Talking Drums' are songs in a rhythmic language with strong contemporary influences of hip-hop and techno, married to my own style of 'Bol Scat'.

'The Sacrifice', 'Krishna' and 'Megha' are driven by Indian classical and folk. 'The trube of zeba' is an imaginary tribal ritual and 'Pancha Dharma' as well as 'Hands and sticks' are jams with two amazing co-artistes.

'Tabla-Naad'showcases the beauty of the traditional tabla accompanied by the gorgeous sargeous of Pandit Ramesh Mishra.

For the first time in this albm, I have experimented with two tracks in which I am the sole musician. These are, 'The Trile of zeba' and 'Acupella'.

For those who have followed my work so fan you are sure to find a fresh sound in this album. My treatment of rhythm is quite different from all my work hitherto. For example, I am surprised at the strong influence of folf and tribal music that pervades this album. To sum up, I must say that I have had immense fun playing around with all those drums. The sheer variety of sounds at one's disposal allows one to express rhythm through so many different approaches. Many of the movements were so spontaneous, that it felt like they were dictated by the drums themselves!
