About the Book
In the first week of May 2014, the Supreme Court of India upheld the ruling that stated that State Governments do not have a say in dictating the medium through which a child should learn and that the right to make this choice rests solely with the parents of the child. This decision, made as a result of an appeal involving the State of Karnataka, triggered a debate throughout the country. While some people believed that this decision would be detrimental to Indian Languages, others believed that this ruling by the apex court is progressive and upholds the fundamental rights of the child.

At Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi, we believed that this warranted a deeper debate on this subject. We joined hands with The Central Sahithya Academy, New Delhi and a two-day seminar was held in the month of August, 2014 in Bengaluru. Scholars from different languages/regions were invited to their views. Once the seminar was over, the scholars presented us with copies of the papers that they presented. This book is a compilation of their papers.
