A song composed by the 16th - century poet saint, Meerabai (beautifully sung by Geeta Dutt), sparks an unlikely romance in this moving melodrama from Kidar Sharma, who was riding high following the acclaim for his urban tragedy, Banwre Nain. The camerawork may be more functional this time around, but Bollywood superstar Nargis is mesmerising as the wandering nun who wins the heart of a rural atheist. There’s certainly a chaste empathy about her relationship with the dashing Dilip Kumar, whose passion is tempered by her account of her tempestuous life.
