It irrigates a vast area in these cities and is therefore a very important natural resource. Narmada is also called the lifeline of Madhya Pradesh.
Narmada and Tapti are the only peninsular rivers that flow from east to west, into the Arabian Sea. The others flow into the Bay of Bengal.
