Raga Bhairavi belongs to Bhairavi that. It is an early morning raga, and traditionally the last raga to be performed at a session. Although Bhairavi is a major league raga, it stands apart from other ragas of like stature in one important way, i.e., the use of all 12 swaras is a signal feature of Bhairavi. Dhrupad and dhamar compositions abound in Bhairavi. Khayal treatment is usually dispensed through druta compositions. Bhairavi finds extensive application in auxiliary genres such as tarana, tappa and thumri & creates an aura of delight & romance. Outside the classical realm, it thickly inhabits every conceivable Indian musical form such as, bhajan, geet, ghazal, qawwali and so on.
