This book explains aspects of the poetic personality of C. Subramania Bharati in terms of his life and works. A section of this book is devoted to Bharati's prose works and his influence on modern Tamil prose. His works launched a new era in the history of Tamil Literature. As a patriot and a revolutionary, he represents the voice of a new generation in Twentieth century Tamil Literature. Bharati's National Poems, Philosophical Poems, Kannan-Pattu, Kuyir-Pattu and Panchali Sabatham have earned a great reputation for him as a poet and a philosopher. This critical analysis of the poet Bharati by his grand daughter explores the many-sided aspect of his personality; Bharati, the patriot, poet, philosopher, admirer of Nature and prose-writer.

About the Author:

S. Vijaya Bharati a graduate of the Madras and Annamalai Universities earned her doctorate in 1967 on Bharati research. She is a career researcher and University teacher, currently working on Bharati - His Contemporaries and Modern Tamil Poets at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. A fine scholar and literary critic, she is the distinguished grand daughter of the poet, C. Subramania Bharati.

Dr. Vijaya Bharati is a permanent resident of Canada.
