Preface

When I decided to pen down some thoughts on various aspects of our daily living in the form of an inspiring booklet and share the same with my readers, I was neither persuaded nor encouraged by anyone to tread on these thorny issues, which may invite appreciation or criticism from its readers but from within me arose a natural instinct which motivated me for making an attempt to bring out the essence of life for a better, beneficial and a gracious living. The basics of primary education in the last early mid- century were confined to Lord MaCaulay's alphabets and taught in the dingy classrooms with temporary corrugated sheets or in the open courtyards of schools under a banyan tree by and large. The means for better education were scarce and were available only in few big cities, but importantly, there was stress on maintaining and respecting human values and inculcating ideals which inspired a feeling of service to the mankind with a touch of simplicity and modesty. The period of learning and worldly understanding was lost in the din of fiasco created by the partition of the country and I, like many others of my age, had rolling academic education for sometime, mainly due to reasons of frequent transfers and movements of my respected dear father, being in the Central Government service, and also because of migrants from West Punjab due to partition of the country, when most of the Government schools in Punjab were closed to provide transitory arrangements for the stay of huge influx of refugees was left by the circumstances and the compelling reasons to seek from the worldly experience, then the prescribed books in the schools and colleges, which of course, I, later had to make up at Delhi University in early fifties, but the education received was practical.
