This Brass Shodash Upachara lamp is used for worship and is part of the second half of the traditional sixteen-step Shodash Upachara. These theme lamps have a unique shape due to the presence of little tubes (sometimes just holes) and might be mistaken for an instrument for inserting incense sticks. An arch is a common design feature, beneath or in front of which a small figure, in this case, a regal peacock, is positioned beneath the beautiful Kirtimukha aureole. Thick cotton wicks soaked in fuel are lit by an attendant to the priest shortly before usage in the relevant ritual and extinguished soon after, the tubes linked to the rear side of the arch or holes carved in a ridge for the procedure of Aarti.

An Emblem of Divine Presence: The Shodash Upachara Lamp

Illuminate your sacred space with the radiant glow of this exquisite brass Shodash Upachara lamp, a testament to the rich artistry and spiritual depth of India. This meticulously handcrafted piece is more than just a lamp; it is a vessel for devotion, designed to facilitate the "Shodash Upachara," the sixteen forms of worship traditionally offered to deities in Hindu rituals. Each element of this lamp is imbued with symbolism, promising to elevate your puja experience and bring a divine ambiance to your home.

The Majestic Peacock: A Symbol of Beauty and Auspiciousness

At the heart of this captivating lamp stands a majestic peacock, its form rendered with remarkable detail in gleaming brass. The peacock, revered in Indian culture and mythology, is often associated with the gods and represents beauty, grace, immortality, and prosperity. In Hindu traditions, the peacock's feathers are considered auspicious and are often used in religious ceremonies. It is believed that Lord Krishna wore a peacock feather in his crown, signifying his divine charm and cosmic awareness. The peacock's vibrant display is also linked to the goddess Saraswati, the patron of arts and knowledge, and Kartikeya, the god of war. This beautifully crafted peacock not only adds aesthetic appeal but also carries deep spiritual significance, inviting blessings of beauty and good fortune into your life.

Artistry and Tradition: A Legacy of Craftsmanship

Crafted by skilled artisans in India, this Shodash Upachara lamp showcases the timeless tradition of brass metalwork. The intricate detailing, from the delicate curves of the peacock's plumage to the ornate base, speaks volumes about the dedication and expertise of its creators. Brass itself holds a sacred place in many spiritual practices, believed to possess purifying properties and to attract positive energies. This lamp, born from such heritage, is a perfect blend of artistic expression and devotional function, designed to be a cherished centerpiece in your spiritual practice for years to come.

Elevating Your Rituals

The Shodash Upachara, meaning "sixteen services," encompasses a comprehensive set of offerings made to a deity during worship. These typically include invocation, seating, washing the feet, washing the hands, offering water for sipping, offering sacred ablutions, offering clothes, offering sacred thread, offering sandalwood paste, offering flowers, offering incense, offering lamp, offering food, offering betel leaf and nuts, offering camphor, and offering obeisance. This lamp is designed to hold a flame or lamp oil, fulfilling the crucial 'Deepam' (lamp) offering, which symbolizes the dispelling of darkness, ignorance, and illusion, and the illumination of spiritual knowledge and divine consciousness. Let this brass lamp be a conduit for your heartfelt prayers and a beacon of divine light in your home.
