Lord Perumal, “the cosmic sustainer”, graces the cosmos with divine splendour, standing on a lotus pedestal adorned with the mythical Kirtimukha (The Face of Glory). Clad in majestic regalia, Lord Perumal wields the “Sudarshan Chakra” (The Discus) and “Shankha” (The Conch Shell), symbols of cosmic order and divine sound. His right hand, extended in the “Abhaya Mudra”, bestows fearlessness and courage upon his devotees, while his left hand, in the gesture of receiving, invites the devoted souls into his eternal embrace.

Beside him stand “Sridevi” and “Bhudevi”, his beloved consorts radiating grace. Holding lotus buds, they symbolise purity, prosperity and fertility. Together, this divine trio embodies the harmonious balance of preservation, prosperity, and protection. Crafted in Panchaloha bronze from “Swamimalai” using the ancient “Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) technique”, this artwork encapsulates cosmic balance, benevolence, and the eternal dance of creation.

The Divine Presence of Lord Perumal with His Consorts

This exquisite Panchaloha bronze sculpture captures the divine trinity of Lord Perumal, the preserver of the universe, flanked by his beloved consorts, Sridevi and Bhudevi. Lord Perumal, also known as Vishnu, is a central deity in Hinduism, revered for his role in maintaining cosmic order and righteousness. His iconography often depicts him with four arms, holding a discus (Sudarshana Chakra) symbolizing his power to destroy evil, a conch shell (Panchajanya) representing the primordial sound of creation, a mace (Kaumodaki) signifying strength, and a lotus (Padma) symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening. In this magnificent representation, Lord Perumal stands tall and majestic, radiating an aura of serene authority and benevolence.

Sridevi and Bhudevi: Embodiments of Divine Grace and Earthly Prosperity

To his right stands Sridevi, the goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. She is often depicted as the embodiment of Lakshmi, the divine consort of Vishnu, bringing abundance and auspiciousness. Her presence signifies material well-being and the blessings that flow from divine grace. On his left is Bhudevi, the goddess of the Earth. She represents fertility, sustenance, and the grounding energy of the planet. Her union with Vishnu signifies the interconnectedness of the divine and the terrestrial, highlighting the importance of nurturing and respecting the Earth. Together, Sridevi and Bhudevi represent the dual aspects of divine blessings: the spiritual and the material, the celestial and the earthly, forming an integral part of Vishnu's divine family and his benevolent cosmic mission.

The Art of Madhuchista Vidhana: A Legacy of Craftsmanship

This sculpture is a testament to the ancient and revered art form of Madhuchista Vidhana, also known as the lost-wax casting technique. Originating from Swamimalai, a renowned center for traditional South Indian bronze casting, this method involves intricate craftsmanship passed down through generations of artisans. A detailed model is first created using wax, which is then covered with a fine clay mixture. When fired, the wax melts and drains away, leaving a hollow mold. Molten Panchaloha, a sacred alloy of five metals (typically copper, tin, zinc, iron, and lead), is poured into this cavity. Upon cooling, the mold is broken, revealing a precisely replicated and stunning bronze artifact. The use of Panchaloha is considered highly auspicious, believed to imbue the sculpture with divine energies and spiritual potency. The rich, golden patina of this piece reflects the skill and dedication of the artisans, creating a divine masterpiece that resonates with both artistic excellence and profound spiritual significance. This 10-inch sculpture, with its harmonious composition and detailed execution, serves as a powerful symbol of divine grace, prosperity, and the enduring strength of faith.
