The Buddha's Earth Witness

This exquisite brass sculpture depicts the Lord Buddha in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, a gesture directly linked to the pivotal moment of his enlightenment. The Buddha sits serenely in the lotus position, his left hand resting in his lap in the gesture of meditation, while his right hand reaches down to touch the earth. This sacred mudra represents the Buddha calling upon the earth goddess, Sthavara, to witness his enlightenment and attest to his worthiness to attain Buddhahood. According to Buddhist legend, Siddhartha Gautama, the future Buddha, was seated beneath the Bodhi tree in deep meditation. Mara, the demon of illusion and desire, attempted to distract him with temptations and terrors, sending armies of demons to unsettle him. Siddhartha remained unmoved, his resolve unwavering. Finally, Mara challenged his right to sit beneath the Bodhi tree and achieve enlightenment. In response, Siddhartha reached down and touched the earth with his right hand, calling upon the earth goddess to bear witness. At that moment, the earth trembled, and Sthavara emerged, confirming Siddhartha's countless lifetimes of virtuous actions that entitled him to attain enlightenment. Mara and his demonic army were vanquished, and Siddhartha Gautama realized full enlightenment, becoming the Buddha.

Dorje Adorned Robes

The Buddha's robes in this sculpture are lavishly decorated with intricate patterns that include the Dorje, a symbol of supreme power and indestructibility in Tibetan Buddhism. The Dorje represents the thunderbolt of enlightenment, capable of cutting through ignorance and attachment. The presence of the Dorje on the robes reinforces the Buddha's unwavering strength and his triumph over all obstacles on the path to enlightenment. The meticulous detailing of the robes, crafted in brass, showcases the skill and artistry of the sculptor, bringing a tangible sense of reverence and devotion to the piece. The robes drape elegantly, capturing the essence of Buddhist monastic attire while simultaneously emphasizing the divine nature of the figure. The brass material itself contributes to the statue's enduring presence and visual impact. Brass is often associated with prosperity and abundance, symbolizing the spiritual wealth that comes from following the Buddha's teachings. The golden hue of the brass suggests the radiant light of enlightenment, further enhancing the statue's spiritual significance. Displaying this sculpture in your home or meditation space serves as a potent reminder of the Buddha's unwavering commitment to truth and compassion, and can inspire one’s own journey towards inner peace and understanding.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
