An extensive Lord Shiva bust. The face steeped in profound samadhi (yogic contemplation), framed by His ample dreadlocks backbrushed from the temple upwards and cascading down either cheek, visually reminiscent of the riverine Devi Ganga. A sliver of the moon at the zenith of His hair.

The intense Prussian blue colour comes from the lapis lazuli from which this Shiva bust has been carved. Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious rock whose rich blue colour is like nature’s homage to Mahadeva. The artisan has carved out the facial form of the Lord with remarkable skill and imbued the rock with a lifelike - nay, divine - quality.

A multitude of snakes gather at the base of the composition. From the coils of those serpentine bodies to the serrations underneath those hoods, there is dynamism and a hint of the realistic in these aspects. As a work of art, the natural medium colour, the lifelike lines and curves that define the theme, and the substantial silhouette of this Shiva bust are sure to turn a lot of heads in your home or office space.

The Divine Embodiment in Lapis Lazuli

Behold a magnificent depiction of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity of destruction and transformation, rendered in the ethereal beauty of lapis lazuli. This striking sculpture captures the essence of Mahadeva, the Great God, a figure of immense power, profound wisdom, and unparalleled cosmic significance. Carved from the deepest blues, flecked with the starlight of pyrite inclusions, this representation transcends mere artistry to become a conduit for spiritual connection. Lapis lazuli, a stone historically revered for its connection to the heavens and its association with truth and wisdom, provides the perfect medium to honor this divine being.

The Meditative Majesty of Mahadeva

This sculpture portrays Lord Shiva in a contemplative state, embodying his serene yet formidable nature. His closed eyes suggest an inward gaze, reflecting his yogic prowess and his mastery over the senses. The intricate details of his matted hair, often described as the dwelling place of the river Ganges, cascade around his shoulders, a testament to his powerful and untamed spirit. The crescent moon adorning his crown, a symbol of his control over time and the cyclical nature of existence, gleams against the rich blue of the stone. The serpent coiled around his neck, a common iconography, signifies his transcendence over fear and mortality, as well as his role as the destroyer of ego and illusion. The artist has masterfully translated these symbolic elements into a tangible form, inviting contemplation and reverence.

Mythological Resonance and Cultural Significance

Lord Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, forming part of the Trimurti, along with Brahma the creator and Vishnu the preserver. He is the Lord of the Dance (Nataraja), the cosmic dancer whose tandava rhythm sustains and destroys the universe. He is also known as the Ascetic, dwelling in the Himalayas, meditating and observing the world with detached awareness. His association with the third eye, which burns away ignorance and negativity, is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of divine insight. This lapis lazuli representation, with its deep blue hue reminiscent of the cosmic expanse, resonates with Shiva's omnipresence and his role as the supreme consciousness. In many traditions, the color blue is also associated with divine beings, further amplifying the spiritual aura of this piece. This sculpture serves as a potent reminder of Shiva's multifaceted nature – the destroyer who paves the way for creation, the ascetic who embodies ultimate detachment, and the benevolent protector of his devotees.

A Timeless Object of Devotion and Artistry

Crafted from genuine lapis lazuli, this sculpture is not only a spiritual artifact but also a work of exceptional artistic merit. The natural variations and inclusions within the stone contribute to its unique character, making each piece a one-of-a-kind treasure. Its commanding presence makes it an ideal centerpiece for a home altar, meditation space, or any area seeking to invoke a sense of peace, strength, and spiritual depth. Whether you are a devout follower of Lord Shiva or an admirer of exquisite stone carvings, this lapis lazuli depiction offers a profound connection to the divine and the enduring beauty of ancient traditions. It is a piece to be cherished, meditated upon, and passed down through generations, a testament to the eternal power and grace of Mahadeva.
