This five-wick puja lamp made of brass is commonly identified as a Nila Vilakku. It is a columnar lamp or a lamp with a stem often topped with a peacock motif. These lamps are considered sacred and are mostly found lit in the inner sanctum gracefully lightened in front of Gods and Goddesses. The basic design consists of a decorative stem, a top oil basin with five wicks, a disc-shaped base that can collect the excess oil and a top of the entire piece rests an image of a peacock, considered the bringer of prosperity and regality. It is believed lighting this lamp brings all the positive things associated with the image of a peacock.

A Beacon of Tradition and Divine Light

Illuminate your sacred spaces with this exquisite five-wick puja lamp, a testament to India's rich artisanal heritage. Crafted from lustrous brass, this lamp is not merely a functional item but a work of art, designed to enhance the spiritual ambiance of your home or puja room. The intricate detailing and the warm, inviting glow it casts evoke a sense of peace and devotion, making it an ideal centerpiece for your daily rituals and special occasions.

Symbolism and Craftsmanship

The apex of this lamp is crowned with a beautifully sculpted bird, reminiscent of the mythical Hamsa or the majestic Peacock, both revered in Indian mythology. The Hamsa, often depicted as a swan or goose, symbolizes purity, wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment. It is considered the vahana (vehicle) of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom, and learning. The Peacock, with its dazzling plumage, is associated with Lord Kartikeya, the god of war, and also symbolizes beauty, royalty, and immortality. The presence of such a symbolic motif at the pinnacle of the lamp further amplifies its divine significance, inviting auspiciousness and positive energy. Each curve and embellishment on this lamp speaks volumes about the skill of its maker. The finely etched patterns on the base and the elegantly shaped stem showcase the traditional brass-working techniques passed down through generations. The five wicks are thoughtfully arranged to provide a radiant and balanced illumination, symbolizing the five senses or the five elements (Panchabhuta), which are fundamental to life and creation in Hindu philosophy. When lit, the flickering flames are believed to banish darkness, both literal and metaphorical, and to invite divine grace.

An Heirloom for Your Devotion

This five-wick puja lamp is more than just an object; it's an invitation to connect with the divine, a tool for mindful reflection, and a beautiful expression of cultural pride. Its substantial brass construction ensures durability and a timeless appeal. Whether you are performing a Lakshmi Puja for prosperity, a Ganesh Puja for good beginnings, or simply offering prayers to your chosen deity, this lamp will serve as a radiant focal point, deepening your spiritual practice and bringing a touch of sacred beauty to your surroundings. It makes for a thoughtful and cherished gift for loved ones, symbolizing well wishes, prosperity, and divine blessings. Embrace the traditions of India and let the gentle light of this magnificent lamp guide your path.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
