Brass and copper pitchers hold a significant place in rituals in India. This brass pitcher known as Kudam in South India and Kalash in other languages has a very typical structure of a flat base, a round body, and a small mouth. The small mouth of the Kudam is structured in that way to enable a safe flow of liquid out of it, a broader mouth would result in spilling of water. These Kumdams play a very important role in traditional marriage ceremonies where the bride is bathed with water brought from a sacred pond in these Kudams.
