This Brass Seval Kodi Flag of Lord Murugan represents the triumph of good over evil. The flag's origins may be traced back to the narrative of Lord Murugan's victory over Soorapadman, a demon who, together with his brothers Simhamukha and Tarakasura, seized the three realms. When Soorapadman met Lord Murugan in combat, he recognized he wouldn't be able to win, so he turned into a mango tree. Knowing the demon's plans, Lord Murugan sawed the tree in half. The two fractured parts instantly reformed into a powerful rooster and a peacock. Lord Murugan adopted the peacock as his chariot and the rooster as his banner from then on. This flag is an essential feature of the Soorasamharam celebration held at the Thiruchendur Murugan temple and can be displayed with Lord Murugan's statue.

Emblem of Divine Power

This exquisite brass Seval Kodi flag is a symbol of divine power and devotion, dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war, victory, and wisdom. Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya or Skanda, is a revered deity in Hinduism, particularly popular in South India. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and is often depicted with six heads and riding a peacock, his vahana (mount).

The Significance of the Seval Kodi

The "Seval Kodi" signifies the divine banner of Lord Murugan, which prominently features a rooster (Seval). The rooster is a symbol of courage, vigilance, and the conquering of darkness. It awakens the world with its clarion call, representing the triumph of good over evil, a central theme in the legends of Lord Murugan. He wields this flag as he leads the celestial armies against powerful demons, embodying strength and righteousness. This flag serves as a constant reminder of Murugan's protective presence and his ability to overcome obstacles.

Craftsmanship and Materials

Meticulously crafted from high-quality brass, this Seval Kodi flag embodies both spiritual significance and artistic excellence. Brass, a metal often associated with purity and auspiciousness in Hindu traditions, lends a radiant golden sheen to the flag. The intricate detailing on the flag, showcasing the dynamic form of the rooster, speaks to the skill and dedication of the artisans who created it. The long, slender shaft allows for graceful placement in altars, during processions, or as a devotional offering. Its durable construction ensures it can be a cherished item for years to come, a lasting connection to the divine.

A Beacon of Devotion

Whether used in daily puja rituals, during festivals like Thaipusam and Skanda Shashti, or as a decorative piece in your home temple, this Seval Kodi flag is a powerful emblem of faith. It invites the blessings of Lord Murugan, fostering courage, dispelling negativity, and bestowing victory in all endeavors. Displaying this sacred symbol is a way to connect with the ancient traditions and powerful energy of this beloved deity. It is a testament to the enduring devotion of his followers and a beautiful piece to enhance any sacred space. –––––––––––––––––––

Cultural Resonance

In Tamil culture, Lord Murugan is a particularly beloved deity, often referred to as "Tamil Kadavul" (God of the Tamils). His influence is deeply woven into the fabric of society, with countless temples and festivals dedicated to him. The Vel (spear), another significant symbol of Murugan, and the Seval Kodi are ubiquitous in depictions and worship of the deity. This flag, therefore, carries not only religious but also strong cultural resonance, connecting the devotee to a rich heritage of faith and tradition. It is a piece that transcends mere decoration, becoming a conduit for spiritual energy and cultural identity.
