The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara was wrecked when he witnessed the misery of earthlings. Avalokiteshvara's head erupted when his love for humans reached its peak. Amitabha then replaced his head with ten heads, whose own head can be seen on the top.  The Compassionate One is shown as a massive cosmic pillar standing between the realm of humans and the abode of the gods in this mesmerizing copper statue of the Bodhisattva. His three heads stand in for the zenith, the center, and the nadir, while his eight other heads represent the eight cardinal directions.

The tenth face of Avalokiteshvara, which belongs to his father Amitabha, has a fierce expression in contrast to the other nine, which have a serene countenance. One may observe a thousand limbs of Avalokiteshvara forming a stunning aureole behind the icon, while his eyes are open, contrary to the half-closed eyes of Nepalese statues, underlining his active and all-encompassing gaze over the realm of his devotees.

The Embodiment of Infinite Compassion

This magnificent copper statue, gilded with radiant gold, depicts Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, in his awe-inspiring Thousand-Armed form. Originating from the skilled artisans of Nepal, this deity is a profound symbol of boundless love and the ceaseless effort to alleviate suffering in the world. The sheer number of arms radiating outwards signifies his omnipresence and his ability to reach out to all beings in need, offering solace, protection, and enlightenment.

The Legend of the Thousand Arms

In Buddhist lore, Avalokiteshvara's numerous arms sprouted from a single moment of overwhelming empathy. Witnessing the vastness of sentient suffering, he experienced a profound awakening and developed thousands of eyes to see all beings in distress and thousands of arms to reach out and help them. The central image shows his primary hands pressed together in añjali mudra, a gesture of prayer and reverence, while the surrounding arms, each with a watchful eye in its palm, extend in a mesmerizing halo. This visual representation underscores his selfless dedication to guiding all sentient beings towards liberation. The multiple faces, each serene and benevolent, further emphasize his all-encompassing awareness and compassionate gaze.

Artistry and Spiritual Significance

Crafted from durable copper and meticulously gilded with pure gold, this statue possesses a celestial glow that enhances its spiritual aura. The intricate detailing in each hand, the delicate features of the faces, and the ornate mandorla behind the deity are a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship. The base itself is a work of art, adorned with symbolic motifs that speak to the rich cultural and spiritual heritage from which this representation arises. Such statues are not merely decorative items but are considered sacred objects, intended to inspire devotion, meditation, and the cultivation of compassion within the viewer. They serve as a tangible link to the spiritual path, reminding us of the potential for goodness and the power of loving-kindness.

A Timeless Treasure from the Himalayas

This 19-inch standing figure captures the dynamic energy and profound peace associated with Avalokiteshvara. The warm, lustrous gold leaf applied over the copper creates a sense of divine presence, making it a focal point for any sacred space or a cherished piece for collectors of Buddhist art. The intricate patterns and the overall composition evoke the grandeur of Tibetan and Nepalese temple art, bringing a piece of Himalayan spirituality into your home. It is an invitation to contemplate the nature of compassion and to connect with the universal aspiration for peace and enlightenment.
