This is a natural Brass statue of Hayagriva Avatar of Lord Vishnu with consort Shakti in her Dhan Swarup (wealth form) as Lakshmi. This avatar of Vishnu has the head of a horse and body of human, it is an epitome of intelligence, symbolizing wisdom and knowledge. During creation, the demons Madhu and Kaitabha stole the Vedas from Brahma, so Lord Vishnu took this avtar to get the Vedas back. It is also said that Vishnu compiled these Vedas in the Hayagriva form.

Hayagriva avatar is invincible with a fierce look on the face, significant for slaying the demons. It shows win of divinity over demoniac.

This sculpture is shown sitting in a lalitasan posture, having four hands, where right hand is in Abhaya Mudra as if giving knowledge to the worshippers and the left hand is holding the book of wisdom. The other two hands have Lord Vishnu’s weapons, conch and disc respectively. He is sitting on an inverted lotus which is placed on a square shaped, beautifully decorated, two layered pedestal. Goddess Lakshmi is shown sitting on Hayagriva’s left knee. She is holding a lotus in her left hand and the right hand is at the back, on Hayagriva’s left side of the waist. Both are wearing ankle length dhotis and enthralling coronets. Hayagriva’s head is covered by Sheshnag’s head as a shield. This posture of Hayagriva and Shakti together is showing love, care and divinity between them.
